Forex market data feed: real-time quotes and candles
The FinaQuotes forex feed streams two-sided bid/ask quotes for major and cross currency pairs in real time, 24 hours a day, five days a week. Each pair also has OHLC candles on nine timeframes, all in UTC. Brokers, prop firms, trading platforms and financial websites receive ticks over WebSocket and history over REST from one normalized source.

What is covered
The forex set is built around the pairs people actually trade and quote on their pages: the majors against the US dollar and the most liquid crosses between the euro, the pound, the yen, the Swiss franc and the commodity currencies.
The live list grows over time and new pairs appear in the feed without changes on your side. The current catalog is always available over REST and on the instruments page; the coverage overview shows how forex fits next to the other asset classes.
- Major pairs such as EURUSD, GBPUSD, USDJPY and USDCHF
- Commodity currencies such as AUDUSD, USDCAD and NZDUSD
- Cross pairs between the major currencies, such as EURGBP and EURJPY
Quote format
Forex is a two-sided market, so every tick carries a real best bid and a real best ask. The spread between them is market data, not a markup we add. One price level is sent per side; there is no order book depth. A mid price is the average of the two sides.
Ticks arrive as JSON notifications over a single WebSocket connection. The structure below is the same for every asset class; values here are illustrative.
{
"Response": "FeedTick",
"Result": {
"Symbol": "EURUSD",
"Timestamp": 1700000000500,
"BestBid": { "Type": "Bid", "Price": 1.08412, "Volume": 0 },
"BestAsk": { "Type": "Ask", "Price": 1.08415, "Volume": 0 }
}
} Timestamp is the price time in milliseconds since the Unix epoch, in UTC. Volume is 0 on forex because level sizes are not available for currency pairs. The full message reference is in the feed documentation.
Sessions and hours
The currency market trades around the clock on weekdays, and so does the feed: quotes stream 24/5 from the weekly open to the weekly close. There is no daily session break to handle on your side.
Over the weekend no new ticks are sent. A subscription made while the market is closed still returns a snapshot with the last known quote, so your interface can show a price instead of an empty field. The stream resumes when the market reopens.
Candles and history
Each pair has OHLC candles on nine timeframes: 1m, 5m, 15m, 30m, 1H, 4H, 1D, 1W and 1MN. The base series is one minute and higher timeframes are aggregated from it, so a 4H bar and the minute bars inside it always agree. All bars are aligned to UTC.
Depth is years of daily history and months of intraday. Candles are requested over REST; see historical data for depth per timeframe and the REST reference for parameters.
Use cases
- Broker: show live FX prices in the client area and the onboarding flow, with charts built from the candle history.
- Trading platform: feed a watchlist and charting module with one normalized stream instead of wiring several sources.
- Financial website: embed a currency widget such as a ticker tape or market watch; forex runs in real time even on the Free plan.
Frequently asked questions
Are forex quotes two-sided?
Yes, every forex tick carries a real best bid and best ask. The spread you see is market data from our sources, not a spread we add.
Does the forex feed run at weekends?
No, forex streams 24/5 and stops for the weekend. A subscription during the weekend still returns the last known quote as a snapshot.
What time zone do forex candles use?
All candles are in UTC. The timestamp of each bar is its open time in milliseconds since the Unix epoch, so you can convert it to any local time in your interface.
Can I add a pair that is not in the list?
Yes, ask for it in the access request. The live list grows over time, and new pairs appear in the feed without any change on your side. The current set is on the instruments page.
