Stock market data feed: real-time quotes and candles

What is covered

The core of the equity set is the US large cap market: the constituents of the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq-100, listed on NYSE and Nasdaq. Next to them sits a set of selected non-US listings, so a site or platform can show the best known international names alongside US stocks.

The list grows automatically and new tickers appear in the feed without changes on your side. The current catalog is on the instruments page and over REST, which also serves company logos for watchlists and symbol cards.

  • US large caps, including S&P 500 and Nasdaq-100 constituents
  • Selected non-US listings, delivered with a delay of about 15 minutes
  • Clean tickers: a dot is dropped, so BRK.B arrives as BRKB

Quote format

US stocks are quoted two-sided: a level 1 best bid and best ask, plus the last trade price. Non-US listings arrive as a last price, about 15 minutes delayed, with both sides equal. Ticks come over a single WebSocket connection as JSON, with the same structure for every asset class: a symbol, a timestamp in UTC milliseconds and two price fields, BestBid and BestAsk.

How those fields are filled for equities is described in the price format section of the feed documentation. One price level is sent; there is no order book depth.

Sessions and hours

Each stock follows the exchange hours of its listing venue. A Nasdaq or NYSE listing trades on the US session, a London listing on the LSE session, and so on. Session times are daylight saving aware, so the switch between summer and winter time needs no work on your side.

US stocks stream in real time during the session. Non-US listings arrive with a delay of about 15 minutes, and that delay is part of how they are delivered, not a fault. Outside trading hours no new ticks are sent; a subscription still returns the last known price as a snapshot.

Candles and history

Every stock has OHLC candles on nine timeframes, from 1m to 1MN. The base series is one minute and higher timeframes are built from it. Bars are in UTC and exist only for the trading hours of the listing exchange, so a chart has no flat overnight bars to filter out.

Depth is years of daily history and months of intraday. Details per timeframe are on the historical data page; request parameters are in the REST reference.

Use cases

  • Trading platform: drive watchlists, symbol pages and charts from one normalized equity stream with logos from the same API.
  • Financial website: embed a stock widget such as a market overview or ticker tape; on the Free plan exchange-traded instruments are delayed 15 minutes.
